Affordable Hotels in the City Center

For attendees seeking more affordable options, Madrid’s city center offers a wide range of three-star hotels within a short walking distance of the venue. Many are located on quiet streets just off Gran Vía, offering a balance of comfort, accessibility, and price. Typical rates for these hotels range around €100 per night. However, be aware that this is peak season for Madrid and schedule early.

Recommended Nearby Options

Between the Riu Plaza España and these neighboring hotels, most conference participants will be able to find suitable accommodation within a five-minute walk of the main venue. This proximity not only reduces transportation needs but also creates a shared, walkable conference environment—ideal for informal conversations, networking, and enjoying Madrid’s vibrant atmosphere.

From the Airport

Most international participants will arrive through Madrid-Barajas Airport (Terminal 4), located 16 km from the city center.
Metro
The metro is often the most efficient option. The journey typically takes around 30 minutes and costs €5–€10.
Taxi
Taxis are also readily available at a fixed rate of €30 from the airport to anywhere in the city, with a travel time of 25–30 minutes depending on traffic.

Moving Around the City

Once in the city, attendees will find that the Riu Plaza España sits at a strategic transportation node, with three metro lines (2, 3, and 10) converging beneath it and multiple city bus routes nearby. From here, visitors can reach all major cultural and commercial districts quickly and easily, often in under fifteen minutes. The Royal Palace, Puerta del Sol, and the Prado Museum corridor are all within walking distance.

Metro

Madrid’s metro is clean, frequent, and inexpensive, making it the preferred mode of transport for most locals. A single trip within the city center typically costs around €1.50–€2.00.

Walking

The area surrounding Gran Vía is also extremely walkable. Many major landmarks, restaurants, and theatres are concentrated within a few kilometers, so participants can explore the city comfortably on foot after conference sessions.

Taxi & Ride-Hailing

Taxis and ride-hailing services such as Cabify and Uber operate widely, and taxi fares are regulated. If arriving late at night or with heavy luggage, taxis from the airport provide a reliable fixed-rate option.
